Much of my work is about pain relief and the pain I am talking about today is the pain of the heart.  Rudi’s girlfriend, Sandra, had dumped him and he hadn’t slept for a full week.  Rudi rang me because he was putting himself at risk in a dangerous job - she was ‘controlling his mind’ … ‘for revenge’.

I hypnotised Rudi and he slept that night.  In our next session, about Sandra, I sensed that he had his own reasons to believe that he was under a spell.  Rudi had been abused as a child.

Rudy’s young mind was corrupted by humiliation and manipulation.  He believed that he had caused his mum and dad to beat him when he was young.  It left him confused about the power of his own fantasies and he frequently concluded that he was motivated by forces outside of himself.  Rudi had never learned to maintain personal boundaries.  I wanted Rudi to be free of this kind of thinking.

Using hypnosis helped Rudi to break ‘Sandra’s spell’ and accentuated his awareness of the every day things that people do to manage their personal boundaries.  He read some books about personal ‘boundary management’ and practiced the skills…
